Modern systems — one concept

The wave of fortune

TL;DR

Favourable stretches are said to arrive as waves that can be joined or missed, and gratitude is described as the way to stay on one.

Favourable stretches are said to arrive as waves that can be joined or missed, and gratitude is described as the way to stay on one.

In Russian. волна удачи — the original term; English and Polish editions do not always render it the same way.

Where the idea comes from

The idea that good runs can be extended by attending to them has an obvious cousin in gratitude practice. It also has an obvious problem: reading streaks into chance is one of the best-documented biases there is.

What you can actually check

Keep a written record rather than trusting memory. Streaks feel real from inside and usually disappear when counted. That is the honest experiment and the system does not propose it.

What it does not settle

Nothing specifies how a wave is recognised while it is happening. Identified in hindsight, a run of good luck always looks like a wave — which is a description of memory, not of events.

Fair questions

What is the wave of fortune?

A run of favourable events which, in the system's picture, can be joined and extended by attending to it rather than to grievance.

Is the wave of fortune just confirmation bias?

Possibly, and the system offers no way to tell the difference. Counting the run in writing is the only way to find out, and most runs do not survive counting.
